For decades, Excel Bottling has been making some of our favorite sodas, including the ever-popular Ski Original. Then in 2012, they jumped on the craft brewing wagon and began creating their own line of beers.
Excel Brewing, based in Breese, Illinois, brought in an experienced brewmaster, and using top quality ingredients they created a lineup of five flavorful year-round beers. These include the easy-drinking, Munich-style Lefty’s Lager; a super-hoppy East Side IPA that has notes of tropical fruits, lemon, and pine; Böse Roggen, a dark malty and chocolaty rye brew; Southside Stout, a dark and satisfying drink with roasted barley and dark caramel malts; and Flash Bang, an award-winning, hoppy wheat beer.
In addition to these standards, Excel Brewery keep flavors coming with unique seasonal creations. Perfect for these cooler months is the company’s Winter Warmer, a delicious, English-style strong ale. If your sweetheart is a beer drinker, check out My Hoppy Valentine, an American red ale with strong tropical and citrus notes. And keep an eye out for the upcoming Black Breath, an Imperial Stout aged in rum barrels.
Like many craft brewers, Excel Brewing has also developed a line of specialty beers to highlight events or utilize special ingredients or pairings. One such example is Bruja, a imperial pumpkin ale brewed with cinnamon and nutmeg and aged in tequila barrels.
