Taking place in Carlyle, IL, on Saturday, February 28, this high-energy, heartwarming event invites brave participants to Be Cool. Take the Plunge. Support the Athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.

So far, this incredible movement has already raised over $365,000, proving just how powerful community support can be. With statewide sponsors like Gallagher and United Airlines, the Polar Plunge continues to grow bigger and bolder each year. Participants from across Illinois come together to leap into icy waters—not just for the thrill, but to raise funds that directly support athletes with intellectual disabilities. Whether you’re plunging solo, with friends, or as part of a team, the energy is contagious, the costumes are creative, and the cause is truly life-changing. It’s cold, it’s courageous, and it’s one unforgettable way to give back while having an absolute blast.

How to Get Involved

Want to be cool and support life-changing programming for people with intellectual disabilities in Illinois? You’ve absolutely come to the right place. Getting involved in the Polar Plunge is easy, fun, and incredibly rewarding.

Step 1: Register. Sign up online for the Carlyle plunge location and officially become a Polar Plunge participant—and even better, a Plunge Influencer who helps spread the word. Many participants form teams with friends, family members, coworkers, or community groups to make it even more memorable.

Step 2: Fundraise. Once registered, start collecting donations to meet—and hopefully exceed—the $100 fundraising minimum. Share your story on social media, challenge friends, or host small fundraisers to build excitement. Every dollar raised directly supports Special Olympics Illinois athletes.

Step 3: Take the Polar Plunge! On plunge day, show up ready to cheer, laugh, and make a splash. Whether you dip your toes or go all in, you’ll walk away knowing you helped make a real difference—plus you’ll earn serious bragging rights.
