What’s Open? The Wineries!

After closing down for the winter months, you know that it is spring when all the wineries re-open for the season! So plan on enjoying days with sunshine when you can sit outside.

Crooked Creek Winery

Crooked Creek’s downtown location has been open all winter, but returning to the production facility and sitting outside will be nice, sipping wine and watching the sun go down. Don’t miss the special events at “the Yard” Downtown!

Twelve Oaks Vineyard

Twelve Oaks Vineyard is a sprawling family farm dating back four generations. Here you can experience a vast array of wines, beer, and sometimes sangria while relaxing in the newly-expanded tasting room or on the back patio that overlooks the vineyard. Even those who prefer not to indulge in alcohol can enjoy themselves with a non-alcoholic beer.

Hidden Lake Winery

Hidden Lake Winery, a magnificent beauty, is nestled in the enchanting Silent Forest in Aviston. The tasting room and the kitchen are open; the kitchen is open Thursday through Sunday. Or better yet, book one of their cozy cabins so you can stay longer and enjoy the many offerings from this winery.

Bretz Wildlife Lodge and Winery

Bretz Wildlife Lodge and Winery transports you to South Africa with their themed decor and aptly named wines. Bretz is also an excellent location for your event or ceremony, with beautiful backdrops, a reception room, and the Serengeti Sunroom! So hang out outside on the “DOCS” Wana Sunset Bar or play sand volleyball.

Water-based Events

We are lucky to be the home of Carlyle Lake, and we look forward to the springtime tournaments and regattas.

NCL Crappie Division 1 Tournament

The NCL Crappie Division 1 Tournament is usually in May. Carlyle Lake is known for its excellent crappie fishing.

IHSA Bass Fishing Sectional Tournament

The IHSA Bass Fishing State Final Tournament occurs the third weekend of May. The IHSA tournament is a fantastic event for high schoolers and is a fun spectator sport.

NCL Bass Tournament

The NCL Bass Tournament is a 2-day event the second weekend in June. The first day is a team Bass tournament and kayak tournament. The second day is for high schoolers to try their skill.

King Kat Tournament

The King Kat Tournament returns to Carlyle Lake usually in June. Catfish are in the spotlight for this tournament, one of several regional tournaments vying for a space in the national competition.

Flying Scot Egyptian Cup Regatta

The Flying Scot Egyptian Cup Regatta takes place in June. The event has been part of Carlyle Lake events since 1993. If you aren’t racing, watching the boats from the shore is always a gorgeous sight

Yard Sales/Garage Sales

Carlyle City-Wide Garage Sale

It happens twice a year, but on the first first Friday and Saturday of May, get ready to sell your extra stuff or get a super deal on items you want. A map with the participating locations is available to make it easy. You don’t need to drive around aimlessly looking for the best deals and steals with a map! Instead, pick one up at City Hall, Case-Halstead Library, IGA, gas stations, and banks.

St. Rose City-Wide Garage Sale

The St. Rose City-Wide Garage Sale is hosted the 2nd Weekend in May and also comes with a handy map! So, if you have roaring success at the one in Carlyle, stick around for the St. Rose city-wide garage sale.

Truck/Tractor Pull & Kickball Tournament

Also, in St. Rose, the Truck/Tractor Pull & Kickball Tournament is held on Memorial Day Weekend. You don’t want to miss this event!

Spring in Clinton County is Only the Beginning
