For the Mc Conauchie’s, the farm is a family business that just keeps growing. Parents David and Lynette and their nine children are all active participants in the endeavor, and as the family expands, the business seems to as well.
Mc Conauchie Manor Farm, which encompasses 120 acres on the outskirts of Carlyle, Illinois, places an emphasis on sustainability. It produces pasture-raised livestock and poultry, as well as wholesome fruit and produce. All the children help out with the process, as does Lynette’s sister, her husband, and family.
Lucky area residents can take advantage of the family’s bounty. Right now it’s strawberry season, and the farm is selling its beautiful fresh berries, all picked daily and chemical-free.
You can also pick your own berries or, if you can’t make to the farm, you can buy them at one of the local farm stands and farmers markets in the region. Hello, strawberry shortcake!
Because family is so important, the McConauchie Manor Farm caters to others families as well. In the fall, it creates a wonderful Corn Maze that’s a favorite weekend outing. It also provides a terrific venue for kids’ parties and offers several all-inclusive packages, such as a Farm Zoo Party that gives kids a chance to get up close to the many animals; or a Pretty Pony Party where kids learn how to care for and ride a pony, before enjoying cake and ice cream in the decorated barn.
